JPL U12 Cup Winners

Our U12A team has won the JPL U12 Cup!!

A cool windy morning greeted our team and the fans at Hindmarsh Stadium. Our boys started the game on the front foot mounting numerous attacks, only to fall behind after 12 minutes when a free kick from Campbelltown bounced awkwardly in front of our keeper which allowed Campbelltown's Jalen Marks to capitalise and score from close range. Our boys kept attacking and were rewarded after 21 minutes when a long range free kick from Kosta Kapetanos was too hot for the Campbelltown keeper to handle, Hudson Proudman pouncing to score from inside the six yard box. One-all at halftime and we were to go into the strong wind in the second half.

The game deciding play came half way through the second half. Kosta Kapetanos picked up the ball inside our own half, beat two players with a forceful weaving run, a couple of great passes and the ball found it's way to John Dongas who took the ball inside the box and expertly finished the move with a well placed strike! Comets 2 - Campbelltown 1.

Congratulations to the boys and coaching staff & it was great to see so many Comets supporters in the crowd. Well done to all!

Comet Hatzi Represents Australia

Comets President Jim Tsouvalas in his inaugural juniors presentation speech in 2001 said that his dream was to see a junior Comet represent Australia.

That dream has just been realised through George Hatzipanagiotis (nicknamed HATZI) who at just 15 years old has been selected in the Joey’s squad to play against Japan this week. The Comets are very proud of George and wish him a successful future at representing Australia.

Ron Smith brings a bit of Socceroos to the Comets!

On Thursday 19 March 2009, the Adelaide Comets were visited by former Perth Glory and AIS coach Ron Smith. In town visiting family and taking time away from his current duties with the Socceroos and FFA, Ron, the father of current Senior coach Barney Smith, took the 1st Team for their final training session before their Round 2 clash away to South Adelaide. The training session focused on attacking play using modified match simulation, which all the boys took a lot from. Ron also stayed back after training, more than happy to mingle with players and supporters. All of us at the Adelaide Comets would like to thank Ron for his visit and for passing on some of his knowledge to the boys, who are all the better for the experience.

Comets to Play in Victorian Bushfire Fundraiser

The Adelaide Comets supports soccer in regional areas where the club travels to to play trials every preseason This year our boys played a game against a riverland representative team in Renmark on Saturday the 28th February. This trial was even more special as it raised funds for the devasting Victorian Bushfire. See the local news article below. Well done Adelaide Comets!!
