The Adelaide City Council endorsement in June 2014 of the Sports Infrastructure Master Plan for the West Parklands has provided Adelaide Comets FC with a much awaited opportunity to commence planning for new facilities at Ellis Park to meet its growing needs for the coming years to come.
The Master Plan was commissioned by Adelaide City Council in partnership with the Office for Recreation and Sport and has been developed in close consultation with the Adelaide Comets and other users of the Western Parklands and key stakeholders.
The purpose of the Sports Infrastructure Master Plan is to provide a framework to guide future investment and decision making for the improvement and enhancement of existing sports infrastructure in both the West and South Park Lands. Extracts from the Master Plan showing a proposed vision of likely development opportunities within Ellis Park (Park 24) are shown below, revealing a new multipurpose facility straddling the boundary between the existing Comets’ soccer pitches area and adjacent events space to the west. A complete copy of this Master Plan can be downloaded from the Adelaide City Council web site by clicking here, the vision, recommendations and priorities for Park 24 are detailed from page 21 in this Master Plan.
The Adelaide Comets have now taken this opportunity to embark on a process to prepare concept plans for this facility to submit to the Council for deliberation and ultimately approval. The main objective of the club is to secure its long-term future through the development of a fit for purpose multi-purpose community sport facility to meet its current and future needs. To deliver this objective the club will explore a number of compatible partnering opportunities with other sporting groups and educational institutions to utilise any such new facilities.
The club intends to consult as part of the planning process to ensure all its members and supporters are given an opportunity to contribute to this very important phase of the club’s history.
