Football Plan 2017

Following our most successful season to date in 2016, the 2017 Club structure and direction has been established and delivered by Director of Football, Doug Paterson, as a forward moving guideline for all involved at the Club.

Adelaide Comets wishes to share this with the community as the Club moves closer towards its goals, with the help of all coaching staff, Board members, sponsors, players, parents, friends and volunteers.

Mission Statement and Philosophy

To create an enjoyable, supportive club environment accessible to all members of the community, with a specific focus on developing the knowledge and skills of all players, providing them with the opportunity to play at the highest level.

With the support of all members, we will achieve our goal to be the premier club in the highest level of competition by adhering to the clubs’ football philosophy of playing a team orientated, attacking, creative, accountable and structured brand of football.

2016 Recap

For the first time in the Club’s history, all 3 Senior National Premier League (NPL) teams finished in the Top 6. The Senior National Premier League team finishing 5th whilst the Reserves and Under 18s both finished 3rd.

The NPL Seniors and Reserves Team’s made the Final of the FFSA (FFA) Cup and our Under 18s team progressed to the Semi-Finals of the FFSA Cup and Top 6 Finals series.

In 2016 Comets took part in the Senior State League women’s competition, which exceeded all expectations. The team played attractive brand of football and are providing our Junior girls with a clear pathway to Senior Woman’s football.

Tony Mansueto and his coaching staff have done a fantastic job in laying solid foundations enabling the team to push for promotion to the Woman’s Premier League in 2017.

Our Junior teams performed outstanding throughout the season with the Under 14 and Under 15 JPL team’s finishing League Champions, while the Under 12 and Under 13 JPL teams both finished second in their respective leagues. The Under 13 girls had a very successful year, winning the FFSA Cup and congratulations goes out to them for a fantastic achievement.

The Adelaide Comets Football Club Academy program was introduced, an initiative built on the foundations of the School of Excellence Program. The Pre-Academy and Academy players were provided a specialized training program tailored to their abilities, exposing them to a professional and developmental environment equivalent to top academies around the world.

Several players were selected in FFSA elite squads. Oliver Stachowiak successfully gained selection for the FFSA Elite Skillaroos training program, while Sasha Coorey was successful in selection for the Girls Under 12 State Team and SAPSASSA team.

What next in 2017?

In 2017, The School of Excellence (SOE) program will be inclusive within the whole of club development program providing a key focus on age groups 7-11. The program provides Comets players an additional coaching session over 8 weeks throughout the year, conducted by the technical coaching staff at the club.

The SOE will be in its third year of operation and will also be available to a number of external players as part of the Club’s community program. The Adelaide Comets School of Excellence program has had over 230 participants since its inception in 2014, providing all members of the Club and general community a safe and fun environment to further develop their football skills and knowledge.

In 2017, the Club will once again be at maximum capacity with player registrations, providing close to 600 players the opportunity to represent the Adelaide Comets Football Club.

“It is our responsibility as a club to ensure that each one of its players and members are provided with the highest possible service in a development focused, safe and fun environment.” Doug Paterson – Adelaide Comets Director of Football
