The Adelaide Comets Seniors picked up their 8th win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating 2016 Champions Campbelltown 6-3 at SA Athletics Stadium.
Coach Theo Tsiounis was pleased with the result.
“It’s obviously good to get a result against Campbelltown, they are a good side.
“I thought we did well in the first half in particular, I thought we played well and some of the best football we have played all season in the first half.”
Tsiounis also sees the areas in need of improvement despite the solid result.
“I think in the second half we became a bit complacent and conceding two goals was a bit disappointing,” he said.
“They were kind of scrappy goals that we could have potentially avoided, so we need to improve in that area and make sure that we get a bit tighter defensively.”
Looking at his squad, Tsiounis was unable to select a standout from the match, praising the full squad for their performance.
“The first half I think everyone contributed, we had to make a few minor changes this week due to injuries but still the players that played were exceptional.
“To be honest I couldn’t really single any one out in the first half, they all did their job, contributed and played really well.
“We focused on some things during the week and it was really pleasing and positive to see them implement it in the first half. Just a bit disappointing they didn’t do it for the full 90 minutes.”
The second half of the season kicks-off this Friday night for Comets, hosting Para Hills Knights at home. Assessing the 11 Rounds to date, Tsiounis is happy, but acknowledges there is still more to do and more to come.
“It’s all been positive but I still believe that we need to improve, we all need to get better at doing simple things right and expecting more from each other; I guess good teams do that well and do that consistently so we are kind of building towards that.
“I think we have a team that is capable of doing very well but as we know, we still have 11 games to go and every game is important regardless of whether they are the top team, middle team or bottom team.”
