Adelaide Comets Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Donk as Assistant Coach for the 2018 Comets Collegiate Team. Mark will assist recently appointed Head Coach, George Agalidis.
Mark has an extensive playing history in South Australia; from Junior football at Blackwood Soccer Club to 6 years at West Torrens Birkalla, 3 years at Noarlunga United, 3 years at Cumberland United, 5 years at Adelaide Hills Hawks (where he was a Player Coach for 1 season) and 3 years at Sturt Lions, where he also took on an Assistant Coach role before hanging up the boots.
Mark tells that now it is the right time to get back in to football.
“I had a missed call from George and I figured he would be calling about something football related and basically whatever it was, I was going to say yes to,” he said.
“I have been out of football for 3 years and while I had been getting offers from various people and clubs, I wanted to have a break. However now I feel like it is time to get back involved and with George giving me the call, it is the right opportunity.
“I am looking forward to getting involved. I think Comets is becoming a bit of a power club in this state at the moment and I am looking forward to being a part of that.”
Collegiate Senior Coach, George Agalidis, is delighted to have Mark in the job.
“When I was considering who to approach for the Assistant Coach role, Mark was right at the top of the list.
“Mark was a great player over a long period of time, one of the longest serving players in recent FFSA history. He also has 1st Team coaching experience in the State League with Adelaide Hills and Sturt, which will prove invaluable for the upcoming season.
“Most importantly, Mark is a great character, who fits the Adelaide Comets culture, and our football philosophies align. I am thrilled to have Mark join the coaching panel and look forward to working with him in 2018.”
