Round 9 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League SA saw the Senior side suffer their second loss of the season, falling to West Adelaide at Adelaide Shores Football Centre.
A red card to Keeper Alex Woodlands in the 22nd minute saw Comets reduced to 10 men, with Valentino Yuel being subbed off for Justin Maher to take Woodlands’ place.
West Adelaide capitalised on the change with a swift goal in the 25th minute, adding a second after half time in the 60th minute.
Comets responded thanks to a penalty taken by Allan Welsh at the 75-minute mark, however at full time the score line read 2-1 to the home side.
Coach Theo Tsiounis may be disappointed with the result, but not with his men.
“Our ambition and aim is to try and win every game and that is why we are here, we put in the hard yards to give ourselves every opportunity to be successful so we go in to every game confident, go in to every game believing that we are going to win.
“Last week was no different, even with 10 men we believed as a group we would get something out of the game, we were a bit unlucky not to, but we have belief and faith in what we are doing.”
The loss means Comets slip down one place to 2nd on the League ladder, with Adelaide City moving back in to 1st – the difference between the two teams, a single point.
The two will now face off in Round 10 of the competition in what is sure to be a thrilling match at Adelaide City Park on Saturday.
Tsiounis is not discouraged by the awaiting challenge, or being without starting Keeper Alex Woodlands.
“We have nothing to lose, we go in to the game no pressure.
“With Alex out, it gives someone else the opportunity to step up and Justin (Maher) did a good job last week, so we have faith in what he can do.
“We weren’t expected to do anything spectacular this season, so we will go in to the game like any other game and do our best to try and win it.”
Travel to Adelaide City Park on Saturday for a full day of football action – Under 18’s kick-off at 11:00am, Reserves at 1:00pm and Seniors at 3:00pm.
