U15 Cup Final
Adelaide Comets 2-0 Adelaide Uni
The U15 Girls game started at a furious pace with Uni pressing and playing a very high line. Within 2 minutes of the start a through ball caught the Uni defence square and allowed Felicia to pounce and calmly slot the ball past the keeper to open the scoring. A perfect start to the game. Comets continued to play the ball around and at the 6 minute mark a set play from a corner resulted in Salma smashing in the second goal after the Uni keeper partially parried a shot from Emma Severino.
Uni were stunned and our girls were on fire. Comets continued to pile on the pressure and but for some better finishing we could have been up 3 or 4 nil by half time. Half Time 2-0.
The coach regrouped the girls at Half time and the message was …”Its 0-0 and we start again”. A response from Uni was certain so it was important the girls played out the rest of the game.
The second half was a pressure packed affair with Uni pressing our defence continuously looking for a goal. Our girls played like they did for the previous 3 cup games with great poise and tenacity repelling their attacks and creating opportunities at the other end. Great defensive work by the back 4 and mopping up by the keeper didn’t allow Uni to create a clear chance and with a vocal and supportive Comets crowd the girls fought out and finished off a tense game to win the Cup 2-0.
This team had to beat 2 of the best teams in their league to get to the final and then also defeated their more highly fancied opponent in the final. There were great individual efforts in each game but overall the group played a great team game to win the Cup. History was made for the Club with this team being the first Girls team to win the Club their first trophy in the girls competition since inception of Junior Girls in 2011.
