The Seniors continued their impressive form on Friday night, claiming a solid 5-1 win over Adelaide Olympic in Round 8 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League SA.
Goals came from Lewis Farquhar, Allan Welsh, Valentino Yuel and Andreas Wiens – who added 2 to his already impressive tally for the season to date.
Coach Theo Tsiounis was pleased with the result, particularly the second half.
“The second half was pretty positive, I think the boys played really well.
“They slowed down the game, tried to find feet and we opened up a few times. In the first half I think we were a bit rushed, so I think they reacted well.”
Tsiounis notes that Wiens, who now sits with 12 goals from 8 matches, is having an outstanding year.
“He is a quality player, he’s got all the attributes.
“He’s got strength, he’s got speed, he’s got world class finish; he’s quality.
“Andreas has been a big asset to our Club since day 1. He’s the best striker in the League hands down and he is proving why.”
For Round 9, Comets head to Adelaide Shores Football Centre to face West Adelaide. Round 10 is against Adelaide City, Round 11 against Campbelltown City. A challenging end to the first half of the season for any side.
“It is a tough end and a test for us,” said Tsiounis.
“City and Campbelltown have set the benchmark for the past couple of years, so we will come out, give it a crack and see where we are at.”
